Hungrrr vs Flipdish: Which Restaurant Ordering Platform Is Better?
Hungrrr vs Flipdish: Quick verdict
For most restaurant operators in the UK and Ireland, Flipdish is the better pick. Hungrrr does one job - white-label online ordering - and does it reasonably well. Flipdish does that job too, then adds a POS, kiosks, an AI phone agent and marketing tools on top. If all you want is a branded website and app, the gap narrows a lot. If you want one system running the whole operation, it doesn't narrow at all.
What is Hungrrr?
Hungrrr is a UK company that builds direct ordering websites and mobile apps for restaurants and takeaways. The restaurant gets its own branded ordering channel, customers order straight from it, and no marketplace sits in the middle taking a cut. Its customers are independent restaurants, small chains and hospitality groups around the UK.
The pitch is simple: stop relying on Uber Eats and Deliveroo for every order. That's a fair pitch. Plenty of takeaways get most of their orders through marketplaces and pay commission on every single one, so moving even some of those orders to a direct channel keeps more money in the till. Hungrrr is a real option for doing that.
What is Flipdish?
Flipdish is a restaurant technology platform. Like Hungrrr, it gives restaurants branded online ordering, websites and mobile apps. It also has a restaurant POS system, self-service kiosks, an AI phone agent, AI-powered marketing, loyalty tools and multi-location management.
Flipdish works in the UK, Ireland and further afield. Its customers range from a single takeaway to national chains and franchise groups.
Put bluntly, Hungrrr is an ordering product. Flipdish is an ordering product plus most of the other software a restaurant runs on.

The table tells most of the story. The two platforms overlap on online ordering, apps, loyalty, menus and multi-site basics. Everything Hungrrr is missing sits in roughly the same place: what happens once the order is inside the building, and any order that doesn't come from a website or an app.
Online ordering and branded apps
Both platforms give you a branded website and app for direct orders. In both cases the customer is yours, not the marketplace's. You get their name, their order history and their contact details, none of which you get when they order through Just Eat or Deliveroo.
For a basic collection-and-delivery menu, the ordering experience is much the same on either. A customer picks a pizza, adds a side, pays and gets a confirmation. Neither platform is going to lose you orders at that stage.
The difference is how many ways an order can come in. With Flipdish, orders can arrive from the website, the app, a kiosk in the shop or a phone call, and all of them land on the same kitchen display and in the same customer database. Staff look at one screen. The customer is one record, whether they ordered on the app last Tuesday or rang up on Friday night.
Hungrrr sticks to web and app. If you're a delivery and collection takeaway, that might be all you need, and paying for kiosks you'll never install makes no sense. If you've got seating, a lunchtime queue at the counter, or a phone that doesn't stop ringing at weekends, Hungrrr starts to run out of road.
POS integration
This is the biggest difference between the two.
Flipdish has its own restaurant POS system built into the platform. An order placed on the Flipdish app or website goes into the same POS the counter staff use. There's no integration to set up and no extra tablet on the counter flashing with online orders.
Hungrrr doesn't make a POS. If you use Hungrrr, you need a POS from someone else, and then you need to get Hungrrr orders into it. Either you pay for and maintain an integration, or someone on staff keys the orders in by hand and squares up the numbers at the end of the night. Both cost money. The manual route also costs mistakes - the wrong side, a missed allergy note, an order that never gets rung through.
Lots of restaurants already know this problem from marketplaces: a counter covered in tablets, one per platform, each beeping at a different volume. Adding a direct ordering channel that is yet another separate system doesn't fix that. It adds one more tablet.
If you want every order in one place, this point alone probably decides it.
Kiosks and in-venue ordering
Self-service kiosks are one of the fastest-growing restaurant tech purchases in the UK. They push average order values up and cut queues. Restaurants typically see order values rise 15-30% on kiosks compared with ordering at the counter. Part of the reason is dull but real: a kiosk offers the large size or the extra dip every single time, and it never gets too busy to ask.
Flipdish supplies the kiosk hardware and the software. Kiosk orders go into the same POS and kitchen display as everything else, so the kitchen doesn't care whether an order came from a screen by the door or an app across town.
Hungrrr doesn't offer kiosks. If you run a takeaway with no queue and no seating, you won't miss them. If you're planning a second site with more footfall, or you've watched people give up on a lunchtime queue and walk out, you will. Switching platforms later to get kiosks is a much bigger job than picking one that already has them.
AI phone ordering
A lot of UK takeaways still take a big share of their orders by phone. Older customers ring. Regulars ring. People ordering for a group ring, because talking through six orders is easier than tapping them into an app.
The trouble is that the phone rings hardest at exactly the moment nobody has a free hand. Someone has to stop what they're doing, take the order, read it back, and hope they heard "no onions" right over the noise of the fryer.
The Flipdish AI Phone Agent answers those calls itself. It takes the order, puts it through the POS and confirms it with the caller. Staff don't have to pick up every call during the rush, and orders don't get garbled somewhere between the phone and the kitchen.
Hungrrr doesn't have AI phone ordering.
Marketing and customer retention
Direct ordering on either platform gives you your customers' data. What matters is what happens to that data afterwards, and most restaurant teams don't have the time to do much with it.
Flipdish has AI-powered marketing tools that send messages automatically based on how people order. Someone who used to order every week and hasn't for a month gets a campaign to bring them back. Regulars get loyalty rewards. Nobody on the team has to build each campaign or remember to send it.
Hungrrr has customer communication tools, but its automation and AI features don't go as far as Flipdish's.
On a features list this looks like a minor line item. It isn't. A customer list nobody contacts is just a spreadsheet. Owning the customer is only worth something if they order again.
Multi-location management
Both platforms handle more than one site. On both you can manage menus centrally, see reports across locations and set things up from one place.
Flipdish goes further here, mostly because a big part of its customer base is restaurant groups and franchises. You can set pricing, promotions, menus and customer messaging centrally and push them out to every site, or just some of them, with fine control over what each location is allowed to change. For a franchise, that's how you stop one branch running its own unofficial two-for-one or still listing a dish that came off the menu three months ago.
If you have one site, skip this section. If you have five, or plan to, look at it properly.
Pricing
Neither Hungrrr nor Flipdish publishes fixed prices. Both quote based on what you need and how big you are, so you'll have to talk to each of them.
When the quotes come in, don't just compare the two headline numbers. With Hungrrr you also need to add:
- the cost of a separate POS
- the cost of connecting Hungrrr to that POS, or the staff time to re-enter orders by hand
- whatever you'd pay someone else for kiosks or phone ordering, if you want them
With Flipdish, the POS, kiosks and AI phone agent come from the same platform.
Total cost usually comes out in Flipdish's favour for any restaurant that needs more than online ordering. For a takeaway that really does only need a website and app, and already has a POS it's happy with, the sums are closer. Run them properly before you sign anything.
Who should choose Hungrrr?
Hungrrr does what it says. It gives restaurants a direct ordering website and app. It suits smaller independent restaurants and takeaways that want exactly that and don't need kiosks, a POS or AI tools. If that's you, and you already have a POS you like, it's a workable choice.
Who should choose Flipdish?
Flipdish is the better choice if you:
- want your POS and online ordering in one system
- run several locations or a franchise
- are planning kiosks, or take a lot of phone orders
- want marketing and loyalty to run without someone chasing them every week
- are in the UK or Ireland and expect to grow past one shop
The more of those apply, the wider the gap between the two gets. A restaurant that ticks one box might be fine on either. A group that ticks four will spend more time and money stitching Hungrrr to other systems than it would just running Flipdish.
